A New Chapter
After two years of laying low and pretty much teaching full-time at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, I am opening a web design studio called DSGN + DVLP. I’m Daniel Schutzsmith, and I’m a designerd.
Why Now?
Over the past few years I’ve worked with some great people in some great roles (project manager, biz dev, biz manager, etc), but no matter how great the gig was or how much I enjoyed the people, I was always longing to try it on my own. This entrepreneurial spirit coerced me to put aside my business sense and get back in touch with my creative side. The web developer side. The web designer side.
The Mantra
Following the advice of Guy Kawasaki, we’ve focused on following a mantra rather than a mission statement. So here it goes!
“DSGN + DVLP is a web studio creating sites that are visually inspiring, fun to use, and easy as pie to update. All with a no fluff attitude!”
the Chronicle of a Designerd
Yeah, you read it right. Designerd. The merging of both a “designer” and a “nerd”. I’ve always been a sucker for good design and I am, inherently, a nerd. This blog for DSGN + DVLP will focus on the tools we use, the inspiration we draw from, the process we follow, and the things we’ve learned along the way. Our hope is that you’ll be interested in sharing some of your own thoughts as well. So kick back, have a look around, and feel free to let us know what you think!

Thanks for all of the support! We really appreciate it! We’re hoping that this move in our careers will be as successful and fun as it was to be with Chopping Block - they’re still alive and well btw!

Do you guys do sites, like Facebook pages or Myspace overlays? I’ve got a beverage client in some serious need but want to know if that is something you actually do or if I am missing something.
